Design initial ideas/concepts:
- geometries openings, interior courtyards
- elegant, thin, columns, difference in levels
- variety external upper levels, urbanisation nature world in design
Design initial ideas/concepts:
- trees difference between in and out
- ground floor is outside but blurred inside
- facade unitised, design complexity
- variation of material
Below shows my Concept idea sketches where I began thinking of all the possible elements to incorporate in my design.
I made an effort to experiment and investigate many concepts during the design process in order to come up with my community centre design. This entails considering the building’s exterior and interior connections as well as the simplicity of movement for guests within. My first idea for the building’s exterior was this curving wooden panel that points in the direction of a well-defined pathway outside. I then made a connection between this and the interior, which made me envision curving hallways.
I experimented with a variety of material combinations and uses during the Sketch up model design process, including wood, glass, concrete, and planting (trees, shrubs, and vegetables). This design method is fantastic since it helps me visualise my ideas and shows how they could be realised in the actual world. From my initial sketch of the building to this step, I have been thinking about the overall concept of the design.
Since many buildings in the town have burned down during fire forests, I want to create something that is both distinctive and practical to maximise social interactions and gatherings in this town. For this reason, I have decided to make the shape of the building an organic natural form.
Ground floor plan 1:100
During this stage of design process, I completed 1:100 floor plans design for all three levels of the building. As can be seen in the pictures above, the ground floor plan clearly defines the entry on the left side of the layout, with a reception area serving as a hub for assistance or directory services.
First floor plan 1:100
In the First floor plan, of the left side is the learning hub communications centre and multi-faith space. There are a few main tables in an open area for anyone who wants a quiet space to do homework or read. In the smaller rooms are areas for tutution and smaller meeting areas. On top of that there are also larger rooms for group classes and multi purpose teaching areas.
Second floor plan
The ground floor plan (above) shows the several major areas including two meeting rooms and a large common space that are intended to be gathering/flex spaces. A food hall with a range of stalls, cooking counters, and tables that seat two to four people.
To ensure that my ideas are communicated properly, floor plans are highly important. Here, I’ve used a technological program called pro-create to make three preliminary floor plans. In order to make sure that the building’s layout is straightforward but practical, it took me around two days to create these initial floor drawings.
In the second floor, I began carefully arranging the areas to make sure the scale is perfect. The multi-faith area, communications centre, and learning hub are all located on the first floor. Lastly, the open gym area with the health clinic to the right is located on the second floor.
